Guiding Principles

2U’s guiding principles define our culture and reinforce our commitment to positive student outcomes:

Cherish each opportunity

Everything we do makes a difference to our university clients and their students, so it is our responsibility to take advantage of every opportunity.

Give a damn

We succeed because we take our responsibility to our university clients — and to one another — seriously.

Strive for excellence

We seek feedback from universities, faculty, students and our own employees to measure our successes and to determine when to innovate and improve.

Be bold and fearless

We must strive to be the best at what we do, and we are not afraid to exceed our own expectations.

Be candid, honest and open

We trust we are working toward common goals, and we respect each other’s thoughts and ideas.

Have fun

We enjoy what we do, and we are not afraid to take time to relax and enjoy our successes.

Make service your mission

We support our fellow employees and our university clients knowing that working together helps us all succeed.

Don’t let the skeptic win

We trust that we are working toward a positive change for students around the world. We focus on what can be done, not what might fail.

Community Outreach

In 2014, 2U launched a new charitable initiative with Pencils of Promise (PoP), a for-purpose nonprofit organization that has built more than 300 schools for children across Africa, Asia and Latin America. Through the initiative, 2U and its employees are raising funds to bring life-changing education to children in Guatemala, supporting PoP’s efforts to build schools, train teachers and provide scholarships.

Joining together with Chip [Paucek] and 2U was especially exciting to me, as we share a fundamental mission to provide educational opportunities for students around the world, whether they be children in Guatemala or graduate students in the Middle East.

In 2015, 2U will send a group of employees to Guatemala to participate in learning activities with students in PoP schools. 2U employees around the globe are participating in the initiative, representing offices in Landover, Maryland; New York City; Los Angeles; Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and Hong Kong.
