Dream 2U15: Keynotes, Activities and Farewells

Today was the last day of the 2U annual company meeting, in which we heard from leaders inside and outside of the company. Our second keynote speaker was Marilyn Flynn, dean of the USC School of Social Work. Dean Flynn has been one of our partners since the beginning, and she continues to be an innovator in her field. She spoke of the relationship between the USC School of Social Work and 2U. Keeping with the #Dream2U15 theme, she presented a custom fairytale story to describe the journey we have been on together.

Dean Marilyn Flynn's Fairytale Story

After Dean Flynn’s inspiring keynote, CEO Christopher Paucek, COO Rob Cohen and Chief Impact Officer Jim Shelton took to the stage to let us in on some of their plans for the company moving forward. It was great to hear from meeting veterans Christopher and Rob while getting to know more about Jim, who joined the company just days before we left for Orlando.

With all this thinking about what’s next for 2U and our partners, it was time to take a look at the impact 2U-powered programs are having on students. We broke into small groups and sat in on open panels with students across the programs we support. It was great to hear directly from the people we support every day.

For our last session of the day we did something entirely new: The entire company was divided into small groups and presented with a business challenge to solve over the next four weeks. This activity allows us the chance not only to work across teams with 2Utes we might never have met, but also to make a positive contribution to the success of 2U.

The meeting concluded with lunch and heartfelt farewells. We will return to our lives in Los Angeles, Maryland, Hong Kong, Chapel Hill and New York, but we will carry with us the excitement of these three days together in Orlando — and we’ll look forward to doing it all again in 2016.
