Mid-Weight Visual Designer

What We’re Looking For:

The main purpose of the role of a Mid-Weight Visual Designer is to conceptualize and produce creative collateral, of a high standard, for all content marketing and innovative B2B and B2C experiences that include but are not limited to the website, product and 2U, Inc’s. growing technologies, under the guidance of a Senior Illustrator or Lead. Designing across a variety of mediums and platforms with a focus on digital and a working knowledge of print from design to production is required. A working knowledge of UI/UX accessibility and inclusivity is advantageous. All collateral should be designed with adherence to the company and university partners’ visual style guides with little guidance from their Lead.

A Mid-weight Visual Designer should be skilled in the ability to proactively engage with more complex ideation for innovative and functional creative solves in support of campaign outcomes by diagnosing a problem, evaluating alternative solutions and making recommendations with moderate guidance from the Lead. Attention to detail must be thorough and accurate when accomplishing a task. Good technical proficiency for layout, UI and visual design components is required with a proven understanding of analytic tools and methodologies to successfully execute function.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Conceptual (quality of problem-solving and brainstorming ability):
    • Should be able to conceptualize and answer briefs autonomously and brainstorm visual solutions with the Content and Brand stakeholders
    • Engage with more complex ideation and conceptualize visuals 
    • Should be able to proactively suggest innovative and functional visual solutions in support of campaign outcomes
    • Engage in team training to further personal & departmental development
    • Assist Leads/Specialists/Manager with process strategies and principles for brand design that meet the requirements of the team as a whole
    • Collaborate with other departments and the rest of the Creative team to understand project needs and ensure output of the highest quality
  • Communication (quality of written & verbal communication and relationships):
    • Effective, clear and professional communication of concepts, ideas and processes
    • Good interpersonal skills and relationships with team and stakeholders
    • Give and receive feedback effectively
    • Improve and build on skills gaps
  • Initiative (quality of proactive ideas and innovations):
    • Sharing ideas and trends with wider team
    • Drive an implement innovations in collaboration with Lead and Senior
  • Leadership (level of training, mentoring, managing and upskilling):
    • Informal guidance and mentoring to co-workers (proportional to years of experience)
    • Lead specific training sessions in line with expertise
  • Quality (level of design output and level of reviewing required to obtain desired output:
    • Staying informed of trends and sharing with team
    • Self review
    • Informal QA encouraged. 
    • Work QA’d against brief by Lead Graphic Designer with mentoring by Senior Designers

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • 3+ years of work experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Design Diploma/Degree)
  • Evidence of experience within the listed responsibilities
  • Strong design, conceptual and visual design skills using the Adobe CC Suite (fully proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign specifically). 

Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role:

  • Having an understanding of HTML and CSS (Experience in Sketch and Invision is advantageous)
